Application Guidelines
Applying for a Community Foundation of the Verdugos Scholarship
All materials must be mailed, postmarked March 9, 2012 or earlier, or hand-delivered to the Community Foundation of the Verdugos' office by March 9, 2012. Do not use registered or certified mail as this will delay the processing of your application.
You can apply for any scholarship you meet the criteria for; there is no limit. Carefully review the Scholarship Guidelines to see which scholarship criteria best matches you. Each scholarship has its own coversheet of steps. Please follow these steps when applying for each scholarship.
- Scholarship Application
Complete the CFV General Scholarship Application. - Scholarship Statement
Some scholarships may require an essay specific to a particular topic. Please follow the steps on the scholarship's coversheet for more information if that is required. - Personal Essay
The CFV General Scholarship Application requires a Personal Essay. Submit a Personal Essay on a separate piece of paper and enclose it with your application (this information will not be published or shared beyond the CFV Scholarship Committees). For your Personal Essay, you may choose option A or B.- Submit your favorite College Application Essay that tells about yourself.
- Write a Personal Essay. The Personal Essay will enable us to learn what is important to you and what motivates you. Your essay should discuss your background, goals, why these goals are important to you, and how and why you believe you will achieve them. Remember, we read your essay to find out more about you - so please take your time and compose a clear essay. Your essay should be no longer than 1 page and typed single-spaced or neatly handwritten.
- Submit your favorite College Application Essay that tells about yourself.
- Financial Aid
A free application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) is required for scholarshp consideration. Please attach a copy of the FAFSA or Student Aid Report (SAR) to your scholarship packet. - Academic Transcripts
Submit all Academic Transcripts. The transcript must include all of 10th, 11th and the first semester of 12th (if available) grades and any ACT, SAT I and SAT II scores. Students should also submit transcripts for classes taken at a college, if these grades are not posted on the high school transcript. If your school has not yet recorded your SAT scores on your transcript, then submit a copy of the SAT score report. - Confidential Recommendation Letter
Submit one (1) Confidential Recommendation Letter. The letter may be from a recent teacher, coach, employer, or guidance counselor. It may be mailed directly to the Community Foundation of the Verdugos or it may be given to the student in a sealed envelope to be included with the applicaiton. - Additional Materials
Include any other materials required by the specific scholarship opportunity based on its coversheet. - Interview
Some scholarships may require an interview. Please refer to the scholarship's coversheet.
