Founded in 1956, The Community Foundation of the Verdugos (formerly the Glendale Community Foundation) exists to improve the quality of life for the people of the Verdugo area - Burbank, Glendale, La Crescenta, La Cañada Flintridge, Montrose, and Verdugo City - by maintaining community assets to support nonprofit community organizations. The Foundation administers gifts as grants according to donors' wishes, and uses the income generated by interest from financial investments from unrestricted gifts to fund hard asset acquisitions (i.e., capital equipment and improvements) and programming for local charities that make them more efficient and effective.
The needs and issues of the surrounding communities of Burbank, Glendale, La Crescenta, La Cañada, Montrose, and Verdugo City will only continue to grow and can only be met by drawing stronger and greater mutual support from the businesses and residents who make this area diverse and vibrant. The Community Foundation of the Verdugos Board plans to direct its mission and vision in the coming years to be in line with what the community is striving toward as its ideal future.
The Community Foundation of the Verdugos is also proud that it is in compliance with standards established by the National Council on Foundations. Created in 2000, the national standards process is voluntary for U.S. community foundations, with compliance valid for five years. The Community Foundation of the Verdugos will be up for reconfirmation of compliance in November 2011.
